In my life experiences, I find the ones that leave a lasting mark plus the most joy, are those experiences which were completely unexpected. El Lagar Del Abuelo, Badilla de Sayago, El Duero have enriched my spirit in ways I didn't expect nor could've imagined. Comfort, warmth, peace are some of the adjectives you'll use to describe El Lagar. Our hosts redefined hospitality and provided an incredible insight into the area, their home, and history. It is evident in every way how much they love this area and its culture, which they lovingly work to preserve. My family and I are so grateful for this experience. I don't know when but I'm 100% certain I will return.
We visited in early summer, and the outside environment was fresh from some recent rains and renewed in all shades of green, light yellow wheat tones, rich browns and cold grey stones colored by lichens and moss. The Rio was flush with water under Roman bridges and Fuentes and could be channeled into the old Mill houses where locals ground the wheat. Make sure to hike and explore the area, it will pay dividends.
We slept incredibly well; the beds were especially comfortable. The spaces are airy and very well ventilated adding up for an ideal rest. The bathroom is spectacular and very well designed. The living spaces are also comfortable and provide for all of your needs. The kitchen has all of the gadgets and appliances and is a joy to prepare food in.
Nearby activities: Besides heading to the town of Miranda do Douro, I highly recommend the Boat cruise of Miranda do Douro. You will learn about the precious microclimate and fascinating fauna and wildlife. Otters, Vultures, Eagles are some of the highlights and the staff at the facility are incredibly passionate in protecting and having this pristine environment protected into the future. They have created something very special. Also located within a short distance to the town of Fermoselle with some fantastic food options.
